About Us

Independent producers Virginia Wright and Veronica McCarthy each bring more than 20 years experience and hundreds of screen credits to the table, delivering award winning documentaries, factual, children's and reality television programmes.

Integrity is our core value and we produce compelling entertainment with high production values on time and on budget.

New productions currently in development capture the spirit of challenge, adversity and adventure.

Past productions feature the human body, spirit and psyche examined in-depth with the likes of The Naked Series, the Biological Mind series and Dying to Eat.  Some stories  challenge our principles with their raw emotional power, like the bid to rehabilitate child sex offenders or witnessing the intense turmoil the parole process creates for victims and their families, or the anguish in the voices of seldom heard teenage fathers.

Discovering what drives some of New Zealand's most compelling and creative characters, we've profiled the likes of international film stunt star Zoe Bell, World Peace Activist Kate Dewes and raucous poet Denis Glover.

We've explored the sometimes painfully funny side of family life, in cars with first time drivers, in suburbs with the working poor, in pool halls with aspiring millionaire solo mothers, and we've made  Italy home with an outrageous immigration experiment.

Our innovative touch has also been applied to some of New Zealand’s most popular children's television programs including Animation Station, The Big Chair and Mum Can I Drive?

Paua Productions has decades of experience working with New Zealand and international networks including BBC, Natural History, National Geographic, Discovery Channel, Al Jazeera, TVNZ, TV3 & Prime/Sky providing innovative prime-time television programmes.

Giving viewers insights into real people in the real world is our current focus, yet the strength and breadth of our past work extends from doco-dramas to children’s series, and allows for screen production in many genres.

We welcome co-production opportunities. Please contact Virginia or Veronica for further discussion.
